Yet decluttering is a very important activity. Not just in my home but also in our own heads. I am reading a book right now about creating a space in our homes that is lovely, comfortable, and welcoming. She doesn't directly discuss the issue of clutter in her book per say, [at least she hasn't yet!] but she does talk about "quieting a room". The book I am talking about is called: The Nesting Place by Myquillyn Smith. Also known as @TheNester. She blogs over at TheNester.com.
This idea of quieting a room as she calls it allows you to consider your space and really find out what it's uses are and what it needs in the area of decorating. As I have been reading through this book I have been thinking about the idea of decluttering. If you want a room to be useful it needs to be relatively clutter free. The space needs to be useable. If you can hardly walk into a room because there is too much stuff in it, than the room isn't useful.
I find in general we, meaning my family, own too much stuff. There are times when the amount of stuff we have causes such frustration in me that I start throwing everything away. This in general is not an approach I would recommend as it does not build good relationships with your children nor your husband.
One of my goals for 2015 in the area of decluttering is to focus on small areas of my home and work on them slowly. I can't get it all done in one day anyway, and I feel if I want to do this right I need to be working on it all the time in small doses. Since we are always being given more stuff I believe it will be necessary to constantly be working on decluttering different elements of our home.
This past week I worked on cleaning my bathroom. As I was cleaning I was thinking about what do I want to be doing with this space. How can I make it more inviting for myself and my husband. Our home tends to be very busy, and often messy. I desperately need some place in my home that can be a refuge for me and my husband where we can relax and unwind. So I am going to start in my bathroom. I hate the way it looks right now. There is a ton of work that needs to be done, but the first thing I want to work on over the next week or two is to declutter my master bathroom. It make take me a while, but I plan to keep you posted on how it goes. I am hoping that my decluttering may end up with some redecorating but time will only tell.
